School History

In 1990, the Montessori in Delta (MIND) Board, a not for profit Society, was made up of a small group of committed families. Having unsuccessfully lobbied for a Montessori elementary program to be operated under the Delta public system, they shifted their goal to the development of an Independent Montessori Elementary School: Boundary Bay Montessori House/School.

During the beginning years, the school moved several times. The MIND Board’s focus was to find a permanent location. With great determination and effort, in 2003, they finally located to the present site at 3800 72nd Street in Delta. Each new space required significant renovation, so from the beginning, BBMS families have been involved in pitching in to manage this process. As our school population grew, new families have continued to show remarkable generosity with their time, talent and financial resources.

In September 2024, BBMS opened our new facility on the same campus, creating additional preschool spaces, and, for the first time, offering care to children ages 1-3 years. We gratefully acknowledge the support of ChildCareBC New Spaces Fund, enabling this project to happen. This has continued the founding vision of providing Montessori Education in our community, from ages 1-12 years.
